The
trees in these saddles are not the same as other "mule trees".
This tree is not like any other mule tree on the market. Steve has
been using these bars for over 15 years of packing, working and
trail riding with mules.
These saddles are design for what the mule has taught Steve about
what they like.
This saddle is also designed for the comfort of the rider spending
long hours in the saddle.

Steve Edwards Signature Series Saddles
are Available with Your Choice of Features Including:
-
Trail
Rider, Trail Rider Lite, or Packer Model
-
14, 15, 16
or 17" Seat-unpadded
(standard); suede or smooth padded seat optional (at
additional cost)
-
4 or 5” cantle
-
7/8 & 3/4 combination
in-skirt flat rigging (We don't use a full
rigging plate because its will put the cinch up against the front
elbow, making the mule uncomfortable and shortening his stride.)
-
Nylon
front latigos and leather rear billets are included; cinches not
included.
Steve uses two perforated neoprene cincha.
Why? The mule
carries its weight low instead of how the horse carries it's
weight high. A mule is HOUR GLASS shaped which can cause the cinch
to move forward under the leg of the mule. Steve uses a snug rear
cinch to distribute the weight and help hold the saddle in place.

The QVMR Mule Saddle Tree™
The QVMR
Mule Saddle Tree is based on the pack saddle bars Steve Edwards
developed and has been using in his pack saddles for the last 15
years. He has incorporated these bars into a saddle tree
design that offers superior fit for the mule as well as comfort
for the rider. The bars in this tree are flatter and have
less twist so that they fit the contour of the mule's back. They are 2½"
shorter than the horse bars used on a typical 15" saddle so there is no
pressure on the mule's kidneys.
They are also shaped to provide relief over the 6th and 7th rib where
mules typically carry a "fat pocket".
 |
Steve
Edwards has found that because this tree design fits at least
70% of the individual mule's back correctly, it will
comfortably fit the majority of mules' backs. We have
not found a mule yet that this saddle doesn't work on! If you
have a tree that is custom fit to one individual mule, it is
not likely to fit other mules well. |

Designed
for the Trail Rider and Packer!
The seat
is designed for the comfort of a rider who spends many hours on the
trail. Unlike an arena saddle that puts the rider in a forward
position for arena work, the trail rider tree positions the
rider's legs in the "rider's groove" where the shoulder and the rib cage
meet. This enables the rider to sit securely down "in" the saddle as
opposed to "on" it. A trail rider saddle fits you like a
comfortable chair so that you can spend long hours in the saddle
comfortably.
These saddles trees have been tried and
tested at mule clinics and shows across the country. Steve and his
apprentices at Queen Valley Mule Ranch train, pack, trail ride, punch
cows, and compete using these saddles. |
