MULE
TRAINER PROGRAM
Pierce College (one of nine campuses of the Los
Angeles Community College
District) is located on a 400-acre farm site in
Woodland Hills, California.
Pierce has a long history of offering agricultural
and equine science
programs. In the summer of 2004, the college began
offering a Certified
Mule Trainer's Program taught by Steve Edwards,
renowned mule and people
trainer.

Principles (2)

It is highly recommended for safety reasons that
students have completed a course in basic
equitation before enrolling in this course.
Schooling and training of
mules for riding and utility purposes.
Emphasis will be placed on controlling and
conditioning the mule in a manner safe for
students and mule.

Prerequisite: Equine Science 680.
Prepares the trainer to
train for event work, packing and driving.

685A Fundamentals of Mule Driving
Lecture 2 hours.
Prerequisite:
This class
covers the basics of driving mules including:
driving foundation-preparing your mule for
driving, harness parts and their functions,
handling the lines, starting your mule in
harness, driving your mule for the first time.
