DRIVING Bit

$81.00

The DRIVING Bit is a full cheek double twist wire snaffle bit plated steal with a 5″ mouth. This driving bit is the first bit Steve used to help communicate with mules who have developed bad manners. Steve has also used this bit for building a foundation with mules who exhibit running away, poor turning, stopping and standing still. The full cheek gives you extra leverage and will keep you from pulling the bit through the mouth.

The DRIVING Bit is a full cheek double twist wire snaffle bit plated steal with a 5″ mouth. This driving bit is the first bit Steve used to help communicate with a mules who have developed bad manners. Steve has also used this bit for building a foundation with mules who exhibit some of the following behaviors:

  • Runaway
  • Poor turns
  • Stop
  • Stand still

The full cheek gives you extra leverage and will keep you from pulling the bit through the mouth.

TIP FROM STEVE: Never create one or two wrinkles in the mouth. Drop the bit to where it bumps the lower teeth. This will teach the mule to pack (pick up) the bit and will show you where the mule is the most comfortable.

TIP FROM STEVE: This bit is for driving and is not a good bit to use in training for the saddle. It should be used for fixing the problem or building a foundation.

How to Use This Bit

Average use of this training bit is 3 to 6 months. At 3 months you can begin using the Liverpool bit. Begin with 15 minutes to one hour of use. Switch back and forth with Double Twisted wire full cheek snaffle for a few weeks until the mule is soft with the Liverpool. At that time you can use the Liverpool consistently unless you begin to have training issues, then go back to the double twisted for a short time to make your corrections.

The Liverpool is your goal for a finished mule.
