Extremely durable, easy to clean, breathable, and features a raised middle ridge to accommodate the elevated spine of the mule and donkey (these are the three bumps at the end of their back).
When used in combination with Steve Edwards Signature Saddles the fleece skirting from the saddle combine with the surface material of this standard pad creates a velcro bond, preventing the saddle from rolling off of the pad.

The Queen Valley Mule Ranch Mule and Donkey Heavy Duty Saddle Pad is the premier mule saddle pad designed by Steve Edwards. This mule saddle pad is built to last and for use with all Steve Edwards mule saddles and other manufacturer’s round skirt saddles. It works for both mules and donkeys.
Your saddle pad is easy to maintain, designed for the animal’s comfort, and will fit both the mule and the donkey? How can it fit both? The mule’s bone structure comes from the donkey and this pad is designed for the bone structure — not muscle mass.
These high tech mule pads are designed and field tested by Steve Edwards and his packers specifically to fit mules and donkeys. The original durable “close contact” design features soft, colorfast Herculon tops in southwest patterns, edges bound in black, and genuine buffalo wear leather.
These saddle pads are easy to maintain and designed for the donkey or the mule’s comfort. Yes, they will fit both mules and donkeys! Why? Because the mule’s bone structure comes from the donkey and this pad is fit directly to bone structure – not muscle mass.
The non-slip bottom is anti-bacterial, breathable and allows moisture to pass thru while helping to keep the saddle in place. The breathable felt inner pad along with the Perforated neoprene bottom helps the mule to sweat under the saddle, cushioning and lubricating his back to prevent soreness and hot spots. It not only provides comfort for the mule but for the rider as well. It has a close contact feel and absorbs shock. It’s easy to clean too—just spray with window cleaning solution and wipe dry.
Saddle Pad Measurements
This saddle pad is designed to fit all mules and donkey with the typical conformation and in tandem with Steve Edwards Signature Saddles. The fleecing of the saddle combine with the material of the saddle pad acts as a velcro that prevents the saddle from slipping off the pad. The sizing is provided as reference.

Love the colors in the Sunset pad – beautiful on my bay spotted large standard donkey, however it is too long backed for him. Maybe he is especially short coupled? But it does fit better than several of my other western pads, I love the space along the spine.

After using this pad for only a few months I would say the ‘week link in the chain’ of a great saddle pad is the rough ‘trim’ that is sewing the whole pad together. The very most rear section of the pad is the only part that should concern you seeming to be the only part of the pad that ‘moves’ with the motion of the horse and makes contact w/the horse …it will and does wear away quite a patch of hair. Logic tells me this can’t go on for a whole season of riding without some serious hair removal.Neoprene (spelled w/a ‘n’) is a great material to have in contact w/your equines body…THAT is not the issue. I have used nothing but neoprene pads for years and to be perfectly honest….it also would wear the same area on my other equine…..and it had the same material as a trim just not such a wide one as Steve is using……So….Steve….can you make your pad with a softer ‘trim”?

This pad stays put, even if your mule walks away while you are turning to get the saddle! Clean it with a hose. Steve’s saddles are comfortable for the mule, and this pad is the cherry on top — keeps the saddle completely off the spine, and it’s really sharp-looking.

I like this saddle pad! My donkey has no withers and the neoprene really holds to her back as do the neoprene lined cinches. The saddle stays in place when I get on and off without the cinches being tight. My donkey stays comfortable under this saddle pad even on a 7 hour ride on a hot day. I set up my mule with prominent withers with the same standard pad and cinches. I’m very happy with these, not even to mention the nylon cinch straps and my 18 pound buckaroo saddle and Steve’s great advice and personalized service. He has developed many customer friends!
