The Extreme Ultralight Saddle comes from the foundation of The Cowboy Saddle and weighs only 20 pounds. Steve has taken the very best ideas from the past 40 years and put it in this new saddle. This saddle can be used for everyday trail riding, dragging firewood to camp, and working cattle.

The seat, 4″ cantle and 13.5″ pommel, are shaped to provide a secure seat and ultimate comfort to the rider who spends long hours in the saddle.

You will find that the imported leather from Argentina is pre dyed and very soft. Our engraver did an awesome job of laying out the different patterns. The leather is dyed with a darker color so the saddle is dark and the britchen and breast collar will be lighter.

Each saddle comes with a 5-Year workmanship warranty.

Nylon Tie Straps Included with Your Saddle

Each saddle comes with four nylon tie straps. Some customers ask about replacing the tie straps with billets and we strongly discourage this. The cinches need to be balanced and centered which is why we ship with nylon tie straps. Billets do not allow for the cinches to be centered and as a result, the saddle will roll and not be balanced. Billets result in the cinch being higher on one side than the other.

Built on a Wooden Tree with Fiber Glass Coating

Steve never thought that he would be riding a light saddle because he always thought you needed large and heavy saddles. But that is not always the case. Because of the tree used to build this saddle, Steve was able to design a saddle that is not only light, it’s also extremely durable.

The wood tree brings you the history, the strength and the durability of a wood tree while providing the protection and preservation that comes from a state of the art fiber glass coating. Wood trees have a century long record of being a proven saddle tree but with raw hide coverings it has shown to breakdown by allowing moisture to creep in and ruin a saddle. With this combination we can brings both worlds together. You will get the durability from a wood tree along with the technology you need for the long haul.

Will This Saddle Fit My Mule?

You want to know if a saddle is going to be a good fit which is why every Steve Edwards saddle comes with a saddle fitting video to help you place your saddle, britchen, breast collar, and cinches in the correct position. It’s free with every saddle. If you do have problems, call Steve and he’ll help you out!

Tips From Steve

When you tighten the front cinch more than the rear cinch, it creates a canter lever action which pulls the saddle forward. This is why Steve suggests the rear cinch always be the tighter cinch.

Options and Accessories

– Breast Collar
– Britchen
– Stirrups – Tapaderos
– Stirrups – Leather Covered

Steve ALWAYS recommends using a britchen and breast collar regardless of whether you’re on flat ground or mountains. You have to remember that you’re riding a mule bone structure (which is a donkey bone structure) and your saddle will go forward due to the donkey V shape in the shoulders – this explains the saddle riding forward.

Stirrups

While some riders prefer their own stirrups, Steve Edwards stirrups can be purchased for an additional charge. Steve recommends Tapaderos as the safest stirrup. In addition, Queen Valley Mule Ranch offers a top of the line leather covered stirrup.

This is the most comfortable saddle I own, but that’s not important. My mule thinks it’s the most comfortable saddle I throw on her back. It stays in place and has cured the head tossing and acting up when we go down a steep grade. And as for me, it’s a whole lot easier to tack up with a light saddle than some of the heavies I’ve been using. Thanks Steve — we give it our top rating of 5 mule shoes!

Fits my Hinny really good. It’s the first time he has something that really fits him.

This saddle fits my mutton withered, pear shaped, hip high Molly mule really well. It’s also really comfortable and has a lot of well placed latigos and rings for saddlebag attachment. Additionally, it’s a beautiful saddle, and the fact that it is so lightweight is absolutely key. My Molly is small-850lbs (small, but mighty, as most of them are!) Now, with our new saddle and the rest of the tack being biothane, she’s carrying under 160lbs, which is important to me. We ride long days in the mountains and hills of Pennsylvania, and I’m so much more confident with the fit and the weight of this saddle. Thank you, Steve!!
