Watch How the Mule Moves

In this video, Steve Edwards of Queen Valley Mule Ranch explains how a mule moves and why he designed his breast collars to support that movement.

Take a moment to lead your mule and see how the shoulder moves. It moves forward and back.

Then watch the feet as you lead your mule. The back hoof will come up and hit the front one as your mule moves. That’s lateral movement. Both legs move on the right side, then both legs move on the left side. This comes from the donkey side of the mule.

When they move left front and right rear hooves together, that comes from the horse’s side. But it doesn’t happen often.

This lateral movement is why Steve designed his breast collar to attach the way they do; so it doesn’t bring the saddle forward. Again folks, you have to keep your mule comfortable for your safety.
